Cooperation Background
As part of its strategy to jointly develop carbon-credit projects in Southeast Asia, the Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR) identified Vietnam as a priority market. Following a thorough survey and assessment process, KTR decided to establish a strategic partnership with Giant Barb. This choice affirms Giant Barb's reputation and strong capabilities as a focal point for expert engagement and technical coordination, as well as a trusted partner capable of working with regulatory agencies and local authorities to carry out legal procedures and field surveys.
The project is intended to follow the Article 6.4 mechanism under the Paris Agreement—the Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanism (PACM). Selecting an appropriate methodology from the outset enables the project to proactively prepare its application for a Letter of Approval (LoA) and the procedures for the international transfer of mitigation outcomes (ITMOs).
Da Mai Landfill Project
The landfill gas (LFG)-to-power project is being studied at Da Mai Landfill in Tan Cuong Commune, Thai Nguyen. Methane generated by organic waste is expected to be collected through a system of wells and underground pipelines, then used to generate electricity.
According to the pre-feasibility study, the proposed model aims to cut an estimated 50,738 tCO₂e in emissions per year. The project team conducted tests at four well locations to measure gas concentrations and leachate levels, providing a basis for finalising the pre-feasibility report.

Next Steps
Based on the pre-feasibility report and field survey results, GB and KTR will continue to refine the project's technical content, investment plan, and legal documentation. The objective is to put in place all necessary conditions to develop the LFG system and complete the procedures for recognising and internationally transferring mitigation outcomes in accordance with applicable regulations.
The Da Mai project is expected to offer a practical local circular-economy model by converting landfill methane into energy while creating measurable, reportable, and verifiable emissions-reduction value in accordance with international standards.
